An enteral feeding pump is a medical device that is used to deliver nutrients directly into the gastrointestinal (GI) tract of a patient who is unable to take food or liquids orally. This device is typically used for patients who have difficulty swallowing, have a medical condition that prevents them from eating on their own, or have recently undergone surgery.
The enteral feeding pump consists of a feeding bag, tubing and a pump mechanism. The feeding bag contains the liquid nutrition and the tubing connects the bag to the pump mechanism. The pump mechanism controls the flow rates of the nutrition into the patient's GI tract. This pump can be individualized and catered to each patient's needs. They can be set to deliver specific amounts of liquid nutrition at a set rate over a specified period of time. This pump can also be powered via battery depending on the patient's needs and to allow for more freedom while using the pump.
